Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. When she moved to Oxfordshire at the age of five, she enrolled in The Dragon School. Emma's ambition was to become an actor. When she was 6, she enrolled in the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch and took lessons in acting, singing and dance. From the age of 10 the actress took part in and performed the main role in several Stagecoach School plays and productions. In 1999 casting began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by agents through the recommendation of her Oxford teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through eight straight auditions. Emma's screen debut took place with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's release in the year 2001. The movie beat all previous records for opening day and weekend sales, and it was the top-grossing 2001 film. It was highly acclaimed by experts, and also by the performances of its three new actors. The Daily Telegraph in Britain that is distributed widely and widely read, praised her performance as admirable. In the following days, Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her performance in the film, winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress of a Younger in the Feature Film.
